Community Leader Steps Forward to Champion People of Sunshine Coast

Fairfax Matters is excited to introduce Francine Wiig as the independent candidate for the electorate of Fairfax in the upcoming federal election.

Francine has a wide range of local experience in small business, law, travel, and education. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and an Associate Degree in Business from the University of the Sunshine Coast giving her valuable insights into the legal system. Her exposure to difficult and often confronting legal issues has strengthened her resolve to take on challenges head-on with discipline, fairness, and determination.

Francine has lived in the Fairfax electorate since 2007 with her husband, a local of 40 years. Together, they operate a long-established family air conditioning business.

“Fairfax is my home. I live here, work here, and raise my children here. I am deeply committed to contributing to this community and leading by example. We need a representative who listens, acts with integrity, and prioritises the real issues affecting our lives, not political games,” Francine said.

Francine’s track record includes:

  • Small business leadership: Running a successful local family business, Francine understands the pressures of small business owners and their importance to a thriving local economy.
  • Legal background: Supporting families and individuals in need of legal assistance, ensuring fair access to justice for all.
  • Community volunteer: Chair local primary school board, local youth arts group and active with football club.
  • Focus on key local issues: Economy, housing, transport, cost of living, and protecting our environment.
  • Genuine independence: Dedicated to representing the community’s voice, free from party influence.

Fairfax Matters spokesperson Colin Graham said, “Francine is exactly what Fairfax needs – a candidate who listens, acts, and truly puts the community first. Her work in small business, legal aid, travel management, and education reflects her dedication to the people of Fairfax. She is deeply embedded in this community and brings a unique ability to unite locals around solutions that matter most.”

Francine Wiig’s journey into politics is fueled by her frustration that Fairfax has been a safe seat for so long and is missing out on the attention and investment it deserves.

“We have a host of local and national issues that need real attention. The economy, cost of living, housing, transport, and environmental protection are critical concerns. Being treated as a 'safe seat' by the two traditional parties means we are not receiving the attention or investment from the Federal Government needed to tackle these issues. We need a fresh approach, different from the tired two-party system.”

The people of Fairfax need a sense of hope. I will be a genuine advocate for the community, listening to locals and acting with integrity.”
