Fairfax Matters is a grassroots advocacy group powered by locals who care deeply about the future of our community. We're not a political party—we're your neighbours, friends, and colleagues who’ve come together to listen, ask questions, and take action on the issues that matter most to people living in the Sunshine Coast electorate of Fairfax.
Whether it's housing affordability, climate resilience, better planning, or fairer representation, we believe our community deserves to be heard. Through surveys, kitchen table conversations, and local events, we're building a movement that puts people before politics.
Together, we're shaping a new kind of politics—open, honest, and accountable to the community it serves.
Since our inception in 2024 our mission was clear:
- Listen to our community about the issues that matter most.
- Support a strong, values-aligned independent candidate to represent us in Canberra.
We’re incredibly proud to have done both.
Through thousands of conversations — from surveys to kitchen table conversations, market stalls to community forums — we heard your hopes and frustrations loud and clear. You told us you wanted politics that puts people before party, long-term solutions over short-term spin, and a representative who’s accountable to their electorate — not a party machine.
That’s why we backed Francine Wiig, a Sunshine Coast local with a fierce sense of integrity and a passion for community. Francine’s campaign launched in January with a groundswell of support, and her message resonated with voters across Fairfax. While we didn’t win this time, the momentum was real — and it’s growing.
The Movement is Bigger than One Election
Fairfax Matters was never just about one candidate or one campaign. It’s about the power of everyday people coming together to demand better. The election may be over, but our purpose continues:
To keep our elected representatives accountable to the people who put them there.
To make sure the real issues facing our community — housing, climate, health, education, infrastructure — are not ignored.
To build on the growing movement for community-backed independents across Australia.
